Thank you for a very successful 5 years in business!!
A Little About Myself
Grooming On The Go, llc was born from my love of animals. Growing up on a farm, I always had a variety of dogs and cats.
Once even a pet pig that was the runt of the litter and was named "Grunty".
Currently, 2 West Highland White Terriers named Taffy and Casper, a Sheltie named Shelby, a cat called Emmy and 3
horses, Cheyenne, Silhouette (lovingly referred to as "Silly") & Tea Gee make up our household, along with my husband,
John. Quite a variety and at times, very noisey!
Prior to grooming, my work experience consisted of office positions. I loved working with the public but when I tired
of sitting behind a desk and shuffling papers, I decided to invest in a career I truly loved; one working with the public
and animals. And of course, being my own boss has its advantages, too!
My Education & Qualifications
My grooming education took place at The Wisconsin School of Professional Pet Grooming,
in Okauchee, WI. It was a 4 month course, Monday through Friday, 8:00-4:30. We began learning "hands on" the second
day and by the end of the 600 hours each of us had groomed a required amount of different breeds to receive our diplomas.
We were graded on our grooming at the end of each day, and at the end of each week we tested. Of course grooming is not just
giving a dog a pretty haircut. We also studied Canine CPR, parasites, skin diseases and animal behavior and handling.
The owner of the school, Dee, and her staff are highly qualified and were excellent to study under.
I knew upon enrolling in school that I wanted to be a mobile groomer. I saw a clear need for a service such as this in
our city and was anxious to get to work once I graduated. We bought a used shuttle bus and while I was away at school, my
husband and brother built my "grooming salon on wheels". I began advertising while still attending school and the response
was overwhelming! I was booked up solid the first week home. Grooming On The Go Professional Mobile Pet Grooming was
born!

WISCONSIN SCHOOL OF PROFESSIONAL PET GROOMING
www.angelfire.com/biz/wsppg/
Are you, too, interested in a grooming career? Do you have an honest love for animals and
have their best interest in mind? The WSPPG is an excellent grooming school and will prepare you to enter into the grooming
world; whether it be in a grooming shop or starting your own business. For four months I "lived" in Okauchee, rooming with
several other girls. It was one of the best experiences of my life and when graduation came I actually hated to see it end.
And I learned I can still study and ace tests at the age of 45! (Come to think of it...I don't think I ever aced a test in
high school!) Women of all ages attended the school, and a few men, as well. We laughed together, studied together and griped
together. We made friends and developed a great respect for our instructors. As I said, I highly recommend the school.
DOGS DESERVE BETTER
www.dogsdeservebetter.com/home.html
This is a site I am very passionate about. Dogs Deserve Better is a non-profit organization
founded by Tammy Grimes. Through her efforts, countless dog owners have been educated about penning and chaining dogs for
life. Take a look at the site, and join in. Dogs are pack animals. They belong (deserve) to live inside the home
with the rest of the family. Even the largest dog can be taught to live inside with manners. It is probably a whole lot easier
than you would think, and if you need help, DDB offers help with training and if necessary, even financial help for the owner
to fence in their yard, so at least he has room to run. Many laws have been passed banning the chaining of dogs in different
states. Some laws have been passed allowing dogs to only be chained for a set number of hours. That is a beginning, and without
this site it never would have been done.
Not only are chained dogs lonely, depressed and most times neglected, but they are
DANGEROUS! A dog that lives its whole life on the end of a chain is not socialized properly and is a huge threat to people, especially
children, getting bit. The number of children that are bit by a chained dog rises dramatically from January to April, when
it gets nicer outside and children begin to play outdoors. Many of these children lose their lives each
year, because a cute little puppy was bought, then put in the back yard when it got bigger, only to be forgotten.
So your thinking of getting a puppy? Think about it. long and hard, first!
The cute little fluff ball you're bringing home for your daughter or sons birthday is going to grow up...fast. They may not
be so cute anymore, and they may grow up to be bigger than your children. During that time, there will be countless piddle
accidents to wipe up, countless nights listening to the puppy cry or bark and countless times you'll wish you hadn't bought
a puppy! Grooming is not cheap, but needs to be introduced to your pup before it is 3 months old, and kept
up. There will be vet bills and obedience class fees. It saddens me, as a groomer, to see dogs that are not groomed on a regular
basis. Overgrown nails, rotted teeth and a matted coat is not what your once cute puppy deserves!! Remember, when
looking at that cute little fluff ball, that it is a life long commitment and it is your responsibility
to provide the best possible care for it...forever!
